H+N+S Landscape Architects, Royal Ginkel Group and Rots Maatwerk were selected in a two-stage competition to design and build the new museum garden at the Naturalis Biodiversity Center, the natural history museum in Leiden, The Netherlands. In the vision of the team, one large garden will be placed on top of a new parking area. The Naturalis garden will present a special experience in which visitors can delve into the meaning nature has for people, and into the historical development of various species. For kids, special playgrounds will be designed that give them the opportunity to feel and touch fossils and skeleton replicas of museum collection pieces that can’t otherwise be touched. The team will work on the design and construction of the project over the next few years, while at the same time Neutelings Riedijk Architects will work on the design for the new museum building, which will be an addition to the existing one. In the second phase of the competition, five teams took part.
